What is Optimal Aging?
Op-ti-mum - the best or most favorable result obtainable under specific conditions.
Aging occurs with passage of chronologic time and happens universally as long as we draw breath.
Optimal aging puts the individual in the forefront and is a complex mix of lifestyle choices, health practices, outlook on life and genetic tendencies. YOU are the key factor in determining whether your aging process is optimal even in the face of health or social issues that are less than ideal.

As a Geriatrician, I want to help you get the most out of your encounters with the health care community. You may want advice on how to stay on the pathway of healthy aging yourself, or you may be a caregiver to an elder. Sometimes, just a little guidance is all you need to get through the mine fields and come out on the other side in one piece.
I have over 25 years experience practicing and teaching medicine, specializing in elder care, and counseling with hundreds of geriatric patients and their caregivers about how to stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible. And, when good health is no longer a realistic possibility, I advise people on the best ways to achieve and maintain dignity until the end of their lives. Click here to learn more About Dr. Root.

About Dr. Root
Founder, Dr. Jean Root, is a geriatrician (physician who treats older adults) who has been in practice for 26 years that has taught in medical school for more than 18 years. She has delivered clinical care to the elderly in just about every setting, including assisted living facilities, hospitals, nursing homes and private homes. She has been a medical director at several long term care facilities and hospices. During that time she has become acutely aware of the needs of caregivers and some of the hassles and hazzards they face on a daily basis. She is certified in Family Practice, Geriatrics, Medical Direction and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is also a wife, mother, grandmother, musician and was co-owner of an internet recipe website with her sister. She began "Ask Dr Root" to enhance and prolong the lives of elders and their caregivers through optimal aging techniques and tips. It is her goal to inform and support elders and their caregivers to achieve the best possible outcomes. |
